I was doing an errand at the bank yesterday. I clearly noticed that people were more impatient than normal. There was more tension in the air and I heard people raising their voices. My banker told me that people have a lot shorter fuses because of Corona.

Many people I talk to express an exhaustion. They don’t recognize themselves. They have shorter fuses and many times effects the people closes to them.

Corona has led to many feeling emotionally exhausted. Not to the degree that they need professional help. It’s more a gnawing tiredness that eats at us.

I have noticed this here in Spain, but I hear the same thing from my family in the USA and from my networks in Sweden and South Africa.

“I can’t stomach watching the news, it just makes me tired!”
A statement that I’ve heard from many people

What I would like to say to each one of us is:

”Give yourself a break!”

Be kind to yourself. Lower the bar. Realize that we are in a surrealistic situation.

I keep thinking of the Serenity Prayer from the 12-step program:

“Grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.”

The acceptance is so important. We cannot change this surrealistic global pandemic. Accept it for what it is. Above all, we have to be kind to ourselves and accept that our fuses are shorter, that we lack in energy and are sick and tired of the whole situation.

That’s not to say that we should not do our best in changing the things we can.

This weekend I am going to be kind to myself. Lower expectations. Refuel and accept the things I cannot change.

Have a brilliant day!

Short fuse, feeling blue, restless and uncomfortable.
